When should I take a childbirth class?

Most families take a childbirth class between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. That window works well because the material is fresh in your mind when labor begins, and you still have several weeks to practice comfort techniques with your partner.

That said, there is no wrong time. If you're earlier in pregnancy, starting sooner gives you more time to absorb information without pressure. If you're 36 weeks or beyond, a class is still absolutely worth it — we simply focus on the skills you'll use soonest.

If you're planning a Lamaze course with multiple weekly sessions, count backwards from your due date and leave a two-week buffer. Babies keep their own calendars.

And if you're not pregnant yet? Preconception education exists exactly for you. Preparing before pregnancy takes a surprising amount of anxiety out of the journey.
